This is an original 20”x10” x1.5” acrylic gouache and soft pastel painting, created in March 2025. Premium quality acrylic gouache, soft pastels, permanent pigments, finished with a matte varnish.
The concept of continuation runs throughout this entire collection. I began the journey to create this collection over five years ago, and many days it feels like all of us have lived a lifetime in those five short years.

This collection explores water as a vast metaphor that runs throughout literature, poetry, and Scripture. The colors and layering in particular are inspired by the ocean. Beautiful, powerful, cleansing, healing, and sometimes potentially destructive. When I go to the ocean, my phone doesn’t work and gets tucked away. There I experience peace. “And the Spirit of God hovered over the water…”
The other prominent figure in this series are the branches and leaves. I’m intrigued by the concept of being rooted in a place that’s quiet and nourishing, filled with life, and a powerful spirit within, resilient in the face of both the cleansing and sometimes harsh storms and rain that water the earth.

I spread my hands wide
And open my arms
As I wade into the ocean
I feel the rhythmic pulse
Of the universe.
Open hands
Open arms
Open heart.
The frantic world washes away
With its erratic stops and starts
In my consciousness
Random motion swirling
Disruptive
Cracking
Shattering
My thoughts
I lean forward and embrace the waves
Peace
Power
